Michael Sarver goes deeper into the story he began telling on Layer One with its Sept. 25 companion, Layer Two.
The seven-song EP completes the autobiographical project Sarver introduced earlier this year, when he described the paired releases as different layers of the experiences and musical influences that shaped his life.

‘Layer Two’ Goes Further Into Sarver’s Story
While Layer One introduced the broader concept, Layer Two turns toward some of its more difficult material.
The central song, “Layers,” addresses the emotional fallout from Sarver’s father leaving as well as guilt and shame connected to his own choices.
Sarver said writing the song helped him see those experiences differently.
“I initially felt like I might not be brave enough to let the world hear ‘Layers’ because it’s deeply personal and I knew it would show my vulnerability,” Sarver said.
Still, he believed the song needed to be heard.
“But I also knew God was telling me this was more than just another song.”
The Second EP Moves Through Faith, Failure and Restoration
Other songs approach the same larger story from different directions.
“Water” draws on baptism imagery, while “I Still See God” focuses on continuing to recognize God’s presence through difficult seasons.
“Praise You With My Life” turns toward obedience, while the R&B-influenced “Ain’t Nobody” closes the EP with a direct declaration of trust in God.
That range fits the two-part project’s larger musical idea.
Sarver has described both EPs as reflections of the different influences that shaped him, moving through pop, gospel, R&B and worship rather than remaining inside one sound.

Layer Two contains seven songs, all co-written by Sarver.
Together with Layer One, the releases form a 14-song album built around the idea that a life cannot be understood through a single story or season.
“The project represents lessons learned, battles fought, and victories won,” Sarver said. “I hope my honesty can encourage others to look inward, be bold, be real, and then to heal.”
The project arrives after a long musical path for Sarver.
He first reached a national audience as a Top 10 finalist on Season 8 of American Idol. Afterward, he released country music before stepping away from that direction and serving as a worship leader in Texas.
His current work marks a return to recording with an explicitly faith-centered focus.
Layer Two will be released Sept. 25 through S&G Music Enterprises and WieRise Music.
