Syntax Creative has signed a distribution agreement with DarkChild Gospel, the independent label led by Grammy Award-winning songwriter and producer Fred Jerkins.
The partnership will include upcoming releases from the label, including A Project of Healing, a compilation intended to promote cancer awareness, education and encouragement.
The project is scheduled for release in October and will feature Bishop Paul S. Morton, Darwin Hobbs, Damita, Alexis Spight, Y’Anna Crawley, Joann Rosario-Condrey and other artists.
Its lead single, “We Won,” featuring Jonathan Nelson, is available through digital services and has been serviced to gospel radio.
“I’m very excited about the different projects we have going on, from Jermaine Dolly to the cancer-awareness project, which is close to my heart,” Jerkins said. “I expect great things in all that we will do together.”
Jerkins has written and produced music for artists including Michael Jackson, Beyoncé, Brandy, Whitney Houston, Jennifer Lopez and Mary J. Blige. He won a Grammy Award as a co-writer of Destiny’s Child’s “Say My Name” and has also received Dove Awards for his work with Deitrick Haddon and Kierra Sheard.
DarkChild Gospel enters the partnership following the success of Jermaine Dolly’s debut album, The Dolly Express, which reached No. 1 on Billboard’s Gospel Albums chart.
Dolly’s singles “You” and “Come and Knock on Our Door” also reached the top 10 on Billboard’s Gospel Airplay chart, while the video for “You” surpassed 2 million views on YouTube.
Jerkins said the new agreement would allow DarkChild Gospel to continue building independently while expanding its digital reach.
“We believe Syntax is uniquely and specifically the right partner in the digital space to continue our success independently,” Jerkins said.
Syntax Creative CEO Timothy J. Trudeau said the company plans to support both DarkChild Gospel’s established artists and its forthcoming projects.
“We’re humbled by this opportunity and are going to work really hard for Fred and all of DarkChild Gospel,” Trudeau said.
