Three generations of The Rogers Family will come together on Let’s Sing a Song About Jesus, the group’s first full-length album for Horizon Records.
The Southern Gospel family will release the album Nov. 20. Roger Talley produced the project, which blends new material with songs rooted in the family’s musical history.
The Rogers Family Carries Its Music Forward
The Rogers Family began in Northeast Georgia during the 1990s. Ray and Helen Rogers sang in local churches with their daughter Kim, who played piano.
Kim later married Sammy Shields, and the family settled in the foothills of North Carolina’s Blue Ridge Mountains. Their children, Rebekah, Samuel and Hannah, eventually became part of the group.
After Ray died in 2010, the younger generation began taking a larger role in the family’s music. Today, Helen and Kim perform alongside Rebekah, Samuel and Hannah.
That history makes Let’s Sing a Song About Jesus more than the family’s first complete Crossroads project. It documents a ministry moving across generations without abandoning the traditional Southern Gospel sound that shaped it.
“We’ve blended a variety of songs, old and new, while keeping our traditional style,” the family said.
Kim contributes piano to the album, while Samuel plays guitar. Samuel, Rebekah and Hannah provide the three-part harmonies heard on the title track.
New Songs Join The Rogers Family’s Recent Singles
The album gathers the group’s recent Horizon singles and adds seven more songs. Among the earlier releases is “When Jesus Comes in the Clouds,” a lively recording of a song the family heard in church while growing up.
June single “He Keeps Right On Blessing Me” has also been climbing the Singing News Southern Gospel chart.
Talley said his own experience singing with family helped him understand the group’s musical identity. His production adds new sounds while preserving the style The Rogers Family had already developed.
The title track places the album’s purpose in plain language. Rather than building around a complicated concept, it invites listeners to sing, worship and direct their attention toward Jesus.
That focus connects the album’s older selections with its new material. The arrangements may move between joyful, energetic performances and quieter moments, but the group presents the songs as parts of the same ministry.
