The Rogers Family is reaching back to a song they grew up hearing for its latest release, “When Jesus Comes in the Clouds.”
The Horizon Records group gives the Southern Gospel favorite a lively treatment built around fiddle, electric guitar, banjo and the family harmonies at the center of its sound.
“We are enjoying putting our own spin on this great classic ‘red back’ song,” the group said. “It’s been sung in many, many churches across the country, and we are excited to keep it going.”
Samuel Shields handles the lead through the opening verses and choruses, with sisters Hannah and Rebekah answering him. Rebekah later takes the lead as the arrangement builds.
For the family, the song also carries some history.
“‘When Jesus Comes in the Clouds’ takes us back to hearing it as children,” they said, “and it serves as a fresh reminder that ‘all sorrow will be past … when Jesus comes in the clouds!’”
The release follows “Secret Place” in July and comes shortly after “A Place to Spend the Night” began appearing on Southern Gospel airplay charts.
The current Rogers Family lineup includes Helen, Kim and Sammy Shields alongside Rebekah, Samuel and Hannah. The group traces its roots to Northeast Georgia, where Ray and Helen Rogers began singing in local churches with their daughter, Kim.
