Spotify Turns Reserved Into a Concert Companion

Spotify is turning Reserved from a ticket-access program into a concert companion. New features rolling out Thursday add personalized share cards, setlist playlists and a dedicated event page within the Spotify app.

Reserved identifies an artist’s most dedicated listeners using signals such as streams, saves, shares and location. Selected Premium subscribers ages 18 and older in the United States and Canada receive a chance to purchase up to two tour tickets before the general sale.

Spotify Reserved Now Follows the Whole Concert

Once a fan purchases tickets through Reserved, Spotify unlocks a tour setlist playlist on the event page. Before the concert, the playlist reflects songs the artist has performed at other stops on the tour.

Afterward, Spotify updates the playlist with the songs performed at that specific show. The setlist information comes from setlist.fm and will be available for participating tours as their dates begin.

Spotify is also introducing two personalized share cards. One appears when a listener receives a Reserved offer. The second becomes available after the listener purchases tickets. Each card includes the fan’s name, artist and show information.

The enhanced event page brings those cards together with venue details, setlists and previous performances. Fans can return to it through Spotify’s Home screen or Your Library before and after the show.

Ticket Purchases Still Go Through Ticketmaster

Spotify notifies selected fans through email, push notifications and the Your Updates section of the app. There is no separate application or sign-up process.

When the purchase window opens, the fan taps “Buy now,” connects Spotify and Ticketmaster accounts and completes the transaction through Ticketmaster. Spotify holds two tickets to the tour during the Reserved window, although individual dates, seats and price levels remain subject to availability.

Spotify launched Reserved in June in partnership with Live Nation and Ticketmaster. The program originally focused on giving engaged listeners a better opportunity to reach tickets before the public sale.

Reserved Is Becoming More Than a Presale

The new features extend that relationship beyond the transaction. Spotify’s existing Live Events tools help listeners discover nearby shows. Reserved instead uses their listening activity to identify established fans and then keeps the concert experience connected to the app.

The share cards are primarily promotional. However, the setlist playlists and continuing event page offer something more useful: a way to prepare for a concert and revisit its music afterward without building a playlist manually.

Recent Reserved offers have included tours from Skillet, Metallica, Miley, Jonas Brothers, Brett Eldredge and other artists.
