The Kingdom Heirs are back with “Jesus Never Met a Sinner (That He Couldn’t Save).” It is their first release of entirely new music since the 2024 album No Better Time.
Drummer Dennis Murphy wrote the song after hearing Pastor C.T. Townsend speak at a church in North Augusta, Georgia.
Townsend introduced The Kingdom Heirs with a simple statement: “Jesus never met a sinner that he couldn’t save.”
Murphy’s mind immediately went somewhere songwriters know well. He was technically still in the room, but he was already chasing a chorus.
“It instantly tweaked my songwriter brain, and I was obsessed for the remainder of the service,” Murphy said. “It’s a blessing and a distraction, but I’ve learned to live with it.”
Roger Talley produced the track, and it wastes little time getting moving. Guitar and keyboards push the opening forward. Then lead singer Chris Bryant enters with a rapid-fire verse about a life headed toward disaster and the possibility of change.
A Fast-Moving Southern Gospel Reminder
The full quartet joins Bryant on the chorus. Biblical references pile up around the song’s central claim that no life is beyond redemption.
It is not subtle. Then again, Southern gospel has rarely been interested in whispering the point when four-part harmony can carry it farther.
Murphy described the song as “up-tempo, unpredictable and energetic.” For once, the adjectives in the release copy are pretty accurate.
Tony Creasman plays drums on the recording. His brisk rhythm gives Bryant and the group’s vocal arrangement plenty of momentum.
The single continues a long run for The Kingdom Heirs. The group became Dollywood’s resident gospel group in the 1980s and has remained closely tied to the East Tennessee theme park. It also continues to record and tour throughout the Southern gospel circuit.
