2014 Oscar Nominations: Biggest Films and Stars

The 2014 Oscar nominations are in, which means Hollywood has officially entered its annual season of polished speeches, strategic humility and pretending not to care who wins.

American Hustle and Gravity lead the 86th Academy Awards field with 10 nominations each. Meanwhile, 12 Years a Slave follows with nine.

This year’s Best Picture race includes nine films spanning historical drama, science fiction, dark comedy and a particularly aggressive amount of financial misconduct.

Performances from Matthew McConaughey, Cate Blanchett, Lupita Nyong’o and Jared Leto also earned recognition in the acting categories.

The animated field includes the blockbuster Frozen alongside The Croods, Despicable Me 2, Ernest & Celestine and Hayao Miyazaki’s The Wind Rises.
