‘Emilia Pérez’ Sings Its Way to 13 Nominations in the 2025 Oscar Race

The 2025 Oscar nominations are in, and Emilia Pérez has plenty to sing about.

Jacques Audiard’s Spanish-language musical crime drama leads the field with 13 nominations. They include Best Picture, directing and acting recognition for Karla Sofía Gascón and Zoe Saldaña.

The Brutalist and Wicked follow with 10 nominations each. A Complete Unknown and Conclave earned eight apiece, while Anora collected six. Dune: Part Two and The Substance received five each.

This year’s Best Picture field stretches from papal politics and architectural ambition to sandworms, witches and musical reinvention. It also includes a beauty treatment with terms and conditions that really should have been read more carefully.

Karla Sofía Gascón became the first openly transgender performer nominated in an acting category. Fernanda Torres earned a leading actress nomination for I’m Still Here.

The acting categories also include several first-time nominees. Among them are Ariana Grande, Monica Barbaro, Yura Borisov, Isabella Rossellini and Jeremy Strong.
