After 30 years of singing together, the Hyssongs are entering their first full album cycle with Horizon Records. We’ve Got a Song to Sing will arrive Oct. 30 with 11 tracks produced by Jeff Collins.
The family group signed with Horizon in April. The agreement brought the Hyssongs into Crossroads Label Group after decades of building their career outside the company.
Thirty years before Horizon Records
The Hyssongs did not arrive at Horizon as an untested act. The Maine-based group had already developed a national following through family harmonies, brass instruments and a steady touring schedule.
Much of their earlier catalog was released independently under the Hyssongs’ name. More recent projects were issued through Artist Resource Services before the group joined Horizon.
The move gives the Hyssongs a new label home without asking them to abandon the sound they spent three decades developing. It also places the group inside Crossroads’ established Southern Gospel operation. The parent company recently expanded its team and moved into new offices in Arden, North Carolina.
“We have sung many songs in the last 30 years!” Richard Hyssong said. “However, we feel like we have just begun.”
The Hyssongs’ first Horizon album
We’ve Got a Song to Sing is not an anniversary retrospective. Instead, the album looks ahead through songs about perseverance, trust and remaining faithful during difficult seasons.
The Hyssongs began introducing the album in May with “Good News Savior.” Its message offers an answer to discouraging headlines without pretending the darkness is not real.
“It’s Not Over Yet” followed in June. Then, July’s “Worship Medley” combined “You Are Good,” “Shout to the Lord” and “Awesome God.” The medley also features a solo debut from Makayla Hyssong.
Elsewhere, “I’m Glad I Know Jesus,” “Death in the Grave” and “A Reason to Celebrate” approach the album’s central ideas from different directions. The title track closes the record with the family’s signature brass and a declaration that life’s unexpected turns do not eliminate the reason to sing.
