Tim Lovelace Finds the Funny Side of Life in ‘Green Rain’

Comedian, musician and storyteller Tim Lovelace has made his authorial debut with Green Rain: Inspiring Short Stories from the Unique Perspective of a Humorist.

Released July 14 through Pathway Press, the book gathers 50 short anecdotes. They draw on the humor, frustrations and unexpected lessons Lovelace has collected from everyday life.

The stories grow out of his Moments That Motivate podcast and nationally syndicated radio series. There, Lovelace turns brief encounters and personal mishaps into encouragement without making every ordinary moment feel like a lecture.

Chapter titles including “Lightsaber Duel of the Century,” “The Tale of the Traveling Tomato” and “How to Train a Squirrel” offer a reasonably clear warning. The path to wisdom may not be especially direct.

“The truth is, I’m not here to teach you how to live,” Lovelace said. “Life is already doing that; daily, relentlessly, without asking permission.”

Tim Lovelace Looks for Meaning in Ordinary Moments

Lovelace said his goal is to help readers notice the opportunities hidden inside routine days.

For example, those moments may involve encouraging someone, loving people more deliberately or simply remaining present for the life already unfolding around them.

The approach fits a career built around finding stories in places other people might overlook.

Still, that does not mean every mishap arrives carrying a neatly packaged moral. Often, Lovelace lets the humor do some of the work first.

As a result, the book feels less like a collection of instructions and more like a series of reminders to pay attention.

Anne Beiler Introduces ‘Green Rain’

Anne Beiler, founder of Auntie Anne’s Pretzels, contributed the book’s foreword.

She describes Lovelace’s comedy as the kind of laughter that comes from somewhere deeper than polite amusement.

“The stories in this book will uplift your spirit and provide medicine for your soul,” Beiler writes. “It feels like a collection of practical ‘how-to’s’ for the ‘ought-to’s’ in our daily lives.”

That combination of humor and encouragement runs throughout Lovelace’s work. It appears whether he is telling stories, recording music or standing in front of an audience.

From ‘Green Rain’ Back to the Piano

Green Rain follows Lovelace’s January instrumental album On a Different Note through StowTown Records.

The eight-song project puts his piano arrangements across a mix of American standards, sacred songs and patriotic selections.

For instance, its repertoire includes “You’ve Got a Friend in Me,” “Let There Be Peace on Earth” and “This Is My Father’s World.” The album also features the multi-song “Celebration of America Medley.”

Meanwhile, Lovelace has built a career that is difficult to file under one job description.

Along with comedy and recording, he is a pianist, guitarist, harmonica player, songwriter, publisher and broadcaster. He also previously hosted RFD-TV’s The Music City Show.

In addition, his songs have been recorded by Ernie Haase & Signature Sound, Karen Peck & New River, The Nelons, Janet Paschal and Triumphant, among others.

With Green Rain, Lovelace simply adds author to an already crowded business card.
