3 Winans Brothers Bring Classic Soul to ‘Move in Me’

The Winans family name runs deep through gospel music history. However, 3 Winans Brothers creates a new combination of three familiar voices.

Marvin, BeBe and Carvin Winans have joined together as 3 Winans Brothers. Their new song, “Move in Me,” offers another preview of the trio’s forthcoming debut album, Foreign Land.

The group is new, but the chemistry is not. Marvin and Carvin sang in The Winans, the Grammy-winning quartet that blended gospel, soul and R&B. Meanwhile, BeBe built a crossover career alongside CeCe Winans before becoming a solo artist.

3 Winans Brothers Lean Into Classic Soul

“Move in Me” draws directly from that history. Horns, bass and an easy funk rhythm recall late-1970s and early-1980s soul.

At the same time, the brothers trade and stack vocals with an ease that comes from sharing both a stage and a family tree.

The production sounds polished without feeling overly modern. Rather than chase contemporary R&B trends, the brothers lean into a musical language they already know well.

Tight harmonies and live-band energy drive the track. Meanwhile, a sturdy groove carries its direct prayer for renewal.

The group first introduced itself in 2013 with “If God Be for Us.” The brothers performed the song during the 50th anniversary commemoration of the March on Washington.

In contrast, “Move in Me” brings more energy. It also gives a clearer picture of how gospel, funk and classic soul may overlap on Foreign Land.

Rodney Jerkins and Daniel Weatherspoon are among the producers expected to contribute to the forthcoming album. For now, however, “Move in Me” gives listeners the clearest picture yet of the trio’s sound.

After decades of Winans recordings in nearly every possible family combination, Marvin, BeBe and Carvin are finally making an album as a trio.

Then again, the family reunion calendar is probably complicated.
