3 Winans Brothers brings together Marvin, BeBe and Carvin Winans in a new family configuration. Their latest single, “Move in Me,” sounds appropriately familiar.
The Winans name is already woven deeply into gospel music history. Marvin and Carvin sang with The Winans, the Grammy-winning quartet that carried gospel, soul and R&B well beyond traditional gospel audiences.
BeBe built his own crossover career alongside CeCe Winans before establishing himself as a solo artist.
As 3 Winans Brothers, the siblings are now preparing their first album together, Foreign Land.
A Familiar Winans Groove
“Move in Me” is the second single from the project.
Horns, bass and an easy funk rhythm give the track the feel of late-1970s and early-1980s soul. The brothers trade and stack vocals with the kind of instinct that comes from sharing both a stage and a family tree.
The production stays polished without chasing whatever currently qualifies as contemporary R&B.
Instead, the brothers lean into a musical language they helped shape: tight harmonies, live-band energy and a sturdy groove carrying a direct prayer for renewal.
The trio first introduced itself in 2013 with “If God Be for Us.” They performed the song during the 50th anniversary commemoration of the March on Washington at the Lincoln Memorial.
“Move in Me” offers a livelier follow-up. It also gives a clearer idea of how gospel, funk and classic soul will overlap on Foreign Land.
A New Winans Combination
Rodney Jerkins, Daniel Weatherspoon and Warryn Campbell are among the producers expected to contribute to the album.
The brothers plan to release Foreign Land through Regimen Records in partnership with BMG and Entertainment One Music.
After decades of Winans recordings in nearly every possible family combination, there is something almost surprising about Marvin, BeBe and Carvin only now making an album as a trio.
Then again, the family reunion calendar is probably complicated.
