Gary Chapman is returning to television alongside his wife, Cassie Chapman, in TNT’s new reality series Private Lives of Nashville Wives.
The series premieres tonight at 10 p.m. Central and follows six Nashville women balancing careers, marriages, families and the social machinery surrounding the country music business. Cassie is one of the featured cast members, with Gary appearing as the couple discusses its efforts to start a family.
For Chapman, the show marks a return to television after hosting TNN’s Prime Time Country from 1996 to 1999. The nightly talk and performance program gave him a front-row seat to country music during a particularly large-hat portion of its history.
Private Lives of Nashville Wives shifts the focus away from performances and toward the relationships behind Nashville’s public image. The cast also includes Erika Page White, Betty Malo, Jenny Terrell, Sarah Davidson and Ana Fernandez.
Chapman’s television return follows his return to recording with The Truth, released in November through Merf Music Group. The 16-track album was his first new studio project in more than a decade.
The album includes appearances from Alison Krauss, John Rich, Tanya Tucker and Rebecca Lynn Howard, along with Cassie and Chapman’s daughter, Sarah.
Krauss joins Chapman on a new recording of “If God Had a Front Porch,” while Rich and Tucker appear on “The Rough Crowd.” Rebecca Lynn Howard is featured on “When I Say,” and Cassie joins her husband for “All About a Baby.”
Between a new album and a reality series, Chapman has apparently decided that easing back into public life would be unnecessarily cautious.
