The Grascals are taking their appreciation for American Pickers beyond watching another episode and wondering where everyone finds barns full of valuable motorcycles.
The bluegrass band has released a video for “American Pickers,” featuring country artist Dierks Bentley and Mike Wolfe from the History Channel series.
The song appears on The Grascals’ forthcoming album, When I Get My Pay, due Nov. 19 through Mountain Home Music Company.
The Grascals Write a Song for American Pickers
Jamie Johnson wrote “American Pickers” with Susanne Mumpower Johnson and Jeffrey East after members of The Grascals met Wolfe and became friends with him.
The idea started simply enough. Johnson told Wolfe that the band loved the television show and asked whether it had a theme song.
It did not.
That sounds less like a missing piece of television history and more like an opportunity waiting for a banjo.
“We just really love the American Pickers TV show, so it was a thrill to meet and get to know Mike,” Johnson says. “I told him we’d like to write a song for him, and he thought that was a pretty cool idea.”
Bentley lends his vocals to the track and joins the band in the video. Wolfe also appears, bringing the song’s inspiration directly into the finished product.
Dierks Bentley Joins the Pick
Bentley has a long connection with The Grascals.
Before his own country career took off, he regularly attended performances by the Sidemen at Nashville’s Station Inn. Grascals singer Terry Eldredge performed with the group and became one of the musicians who encouraged Bentley during his early years in town.
That history makes Bentley’s appearance feel less like a celebrity feature arranged for promotion and more like another chapter in an existing friendship.
