Patrick Dopson is following the success of “Keep Me” with “God Is,” a new single scheduled for release March 18.
The song continues the momentum Dopson built with his 2012 debut album, Open the Heavens. Its lead single, “Keep Me,” became a Billboard gospel hit and introduced a broader audience to Dopson’s combination of contemporary gospel production, worship writing and a vocal delivery that knows when to build without treating every verse like the finale.
“God Is” stays within that lane while placing its central declaration directly in the title. The four-minute track is less interested in presenting a complicated theological argument than in building a musical reminder of God’s character and constancy.
Dopson produced Open the Heavens with Noel Hall and released the album independently through Oilonit Music. His work surrounding “Keep Me” received early consideration from both the Stellar Awards and Dove Awards, though the original post’s claim of six formal nominations appears to have overstated the available record. Dopson’s own biography describes “Keep Me” as receiving first-round Stellar and Dove consideration rather than final nominations.
Before becoming known as a solo artist, Dopson began playing drums and singing in the Selma, Alabama, church pastored by his parents. That background remains audible in his music, even when the production moves comfortably beyond a Sunday morning arrangement.
