BET has ordered a new David and Tamela Mann series that will follow the entertainers at home, at work and everywhere those two worlds collide.
The still-untitled docu-series will give viewers a look beyond the couple’s familiar television personas. BET ordered eight 30-minute episodes focused on their careers, marriage and family life.
David and Tamela Mann are best known to television audiences for their roles in Tyler Perry’s Meet the Browns. However, both have built careers that extend beyond the sitcom.
Tamela has appeared in Diary of a Mad Black Woman, Madea’s Family Reunion and Sparkle. She also has a successful gospel music career.
David has appeared in several Tyler Perry productions, including Meet the Browns and Madea Goes to Jail.
BET Goes Home With the Manns
The new series will shift the focus from their characters to the Manns themselves.
According to BET, viewers will see the couple balance entertainment careers, business responsibilities and family life. They are also parents to four adult children.
Their marriage will play a central role in the series. David and Tamela have been married for 26 years.
That combination gives BET plenty to work with. The Manns have spent years performing together while also building individual careers.
At the same time, they have raised a family and remained closely connected professionally. The new series will explore how those parts of their lives fit together.
BET also promises a look at exclusive events and famous friends. Still, the larger draw may be what happens away from those public moments.
Entertainment One Joins the Project
Entertainment One is producing the series in partnership with BET.
David and Tamela Mann will serve as executive producers. Tara Long, Howie Miller, Kim McKoy, Roger Bobb and Phil Thornton will also executive produce the project.
BET has not announced a title or premiere date for the series.
The series is also available through Amazon.
