The Academy Awards nominations are in, which means Hollywood has officially entered its annual season of polished speeches, strategic humility and pretending not to care who wins.
This year’s Best Picture race includes nine films spanning historical drama, science fiction, dark comedy and a particularly aggressive amount of financial misconduct. American Hustle, Gravity and 12 Years a Slave are among the most prominent contenders, while performances from Matthew McConaughey, Cate Blanchett, Lupita Nyong’o and Jared Leto earned recognition in the acting categories.
The animated field includes the blockbuster Frozen, alongside The Croods, Despicable Me 2, Ernest & Celestine and Hayao Miyazaki’s The Wind Rises.
