The 2024 Oscar nominations are in, and Oppenheimer has officially gone nuclear.
Christopher Nolan’s historical drama leads the field with 13 nominations, including Best Picture, directing and acting recognition for Cillian Murphy, Robert Downey Jr. and Emily Blunt. Poor Things followed with 11 nominations, while Killers of the Flower Moon earned 10.
Barbie received eight nominations, including Best Picture and supporting acting nods for Ryan Gosling and America Ferrera. Maestro earned seven, while American Fiction, Anatomy of a Fall, The Holdovers and The Zone of Interest each collected five.
This year’s Best Picture race stretches from atomic history and Osage Nation tragedy to romantic fantasy, family drama and a perfectly pink existential crisis. It is an unusually varied field, although only one nominee inspired a national shortage of both black clothing and hot-pink accessories.
Lily Gladstone became the first Native American woman nominated for best actress for her performance in Killers of the Flower Moon. Colman Domingo earned his first Oscar nomination for Rustin, while Danielle Brooks, America Ferrera, Sandra Hüller, Cillian Murphy and Jeffrey Wright also joined the acting categories as first-time nominees.
