The 2025 Oscar nominations are in, and Emilia Pérez has plenty to sing about.
Jacques Audiard’s Spanish-language musical crime drama leads the field with 13 nominations, including Best Picture, directing and acting recognition for Karla Sofía Gascón and Zoe Saldaña. The Brutalist and Wicked followed with 10 nominations each.
A Complete Unknown and Conclave earned eight nominations apiece, while Anora collected six. Dune: Part Two and The Substance received five each.
This year’s Best Picture field stretches from papal politics and architectural ambition to sandworms, witches, musical reinvention and a beauty treatment with terms and conditions that really should have been read more carefully.
Karla Sofía Gascón became the first openly transgender performer nominated in an acting category. Fernanda Torres earned a leading actress nomination for I’m Still Here, while Ariana Grande, Monica Barbaro, Yura Borisov, Isabella Rossellini and Jeremy Strong were among the year’s first-time acting nominees.
