The 2023 Oscar nominations are in, and Everything Everywhere All at Once is living up to its name.
Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert’s genre-bending film leads the field with 11 nominations, including Best Picture, directing and acting recognition for Michelle Yeoh, Ke Huy Quan, Jamie Lee Curtis and Stephanie Hsu.
All Quiet on the Western Front and The Banshees of Inisherin followed with nine nominations each, while Elvis earned eight. The Fabelmans received seven, and Tár, Top Gun: Maverick and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever collected six apiece.
The Best Picture field covers war, music, friendship, family, aviation, class warfare and a multiverse held together by taxes, martial arts and several objects that are best left unexplained. Awards season has rarely been this difficult to summarize in one sentence.
Michelle Yeoh earned her first Oscar nomination for Everything Everywhere All at Once, while Ke Huy Quan completed one of the year’s most celebrated career comebacks with a supporting actor nomination. Angela Bassett also made history as the first performer nominated for an acting Oscar for a Marvel Studios film.
