‘Sinners’ Makes Oscar History With a Record 16 Nominations

The 2026 Oscar nominations are in, and Sinners has made Academy Awards history.

Ryan Coogler’s supernatural drama leads the field with a record-breaking 16 nominations, surpassing the previous high of 14 shared by All About Eve, Titanic and La La Land. Its nominations include Best Picture, directing and acting recognition for Michael B. Jordan, Delroy Lindo and Wunmi Mosaku.

One Battle after Another followed with 13 nominations, including Best Picture, directing and acting nominations for Leonardo DiCaprio, Benicio Del Toro, Sean Penn and Teyana Taylor.

The Best Picture race also includes Bugonia, F1, Frankenstein, Hamnet, Marty Supreme, The Secret Agent, Sentimental Value and Train Dreams.

This year’s field stretches from vampires and revolutionaries to race cars, table tennis, family wounds and a creature assembled from the remains of the dead. Hollywood may not agree on much, but it remains firmly committed to making awards season difficult to explain without sounding slightly unhinged.

The 98th Academy Awards also introduce an Oscar for casting, the first new competitive category added since animated feature film. The inaugural nominees include Hamnet, Marty Supreme, One Battle after Another, The Secret Agent and Sinners.

Here is a look at the nominees in several of the ceremony’s biggest categories.
