Jaelee Roberts is reaching back to high school for her newest release. Her bluegrass version of Miranda Lambert’s “White Liar” arrives Friday, Sept. 11, through Mountain Home Music Company.
Roberts performed the song during solo appearances when she was still in school. She wanted to record it for years, but waited until she could build an arrangement that belonged to her rather than recreate Lambert’s 2009 country hit.

Lambert has been a major influence on Roberts, particularly in the way she delivers story songs with attitude. “White Liar,” written by Lambert and Natalie Hemby, gives Roberts plenty of both.
“I love songs with a little sass and a strong story, and ‘White Liar’ definitely has both,” Roberts said.
The song confronts a dishonest partner as his story begins to unravel. However, the narrator has one final truth of her own, giving the song the kind of reversal that helped make Lambert’s original memorable.
For Roberts, returning to the song now connects the music she loved as a teenager with the artist she has become.
‘White Liar’ Gets a Bluegrass Arrangement
Danny Roberts, Jaelee’s father and a founding member of The Grascals, produced the recording. The new version replaces the original’s country production with a bluegrass arrangement built to support Roberts’ vocal rather than imitate Lambert’s performance.
Roberts said she wanted to preserve what made the song work while bringing her own sound and style to it. The arrangement ultimately gives the musicians room for an instrumental showdown before Roberts delivers the song’s final turn.
The release arrives as Roberts balances her solo career with her work as a member of Sister Sadie. She is also nominated for New Artist of the Year and Female Vocalist of the Year at the 2026 International Bluegrass Music Association Awards.
