Syntax Creative Catalog Comes to Public Libraries Through Hoopla

Syntax Creative has added Hoopla Digital to its distribution network, making music from its independent label roster available through participating public libraries.

Beginning this month, patrons whose libraries offer Hoopla can borrow and stream Syntax-distributed albums using a valid library card. The catalog includes gospel, hip-hop, bluegrass, children’s music and other genres represented by the Nashville-based distributor.

Hoopla provides digital access to music alongside e-books, audiobooks, comics, movies and television programs. Unlike traditional library lending systems, its titles can generally be borrowed immediately without waiting for another patron to return a digital copy.

The partnership gives Syntax artists another route to listeners beyond conventional subscription services and digital stores. It also places independent music inside a platform used by people who may arrive looking for a book or movie and leave with an album.

“Hoopla makes it easy for people to hear the music we believe in,” Syntax Creative CEO Timothy Trudeau said. “If you have a library card, you can discover every artist we stand behind.”

Catherine Zappa, vice president of digital acquisitions at Hoopla, said the agreement expands the independent music available to library patrons.

“At Hoopla, we’re committed to helping libraries connect their communities with meaningful content,” Zappa said. “Partnering with Syntax allows us to bring even more independent music to our users.”

Hoopla is operated by Midwest Tape and is available through participating library systems. Available titles and borrowing limits may vary by library.

Listeners can check whether their library participates and browse available music through the Hoopla Digital website or mobile app.
