The 2014 Grammy nominations are in, and Jay-Z is sitting comfortably at the top of the list.
The rapper earned nine nominations, more than any other artist this year. Kendrick Lamar, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Justin Timberlake and Pharrell Williams followed with seven nominations each, while Drake and mastering engineer Bob Ludwig received five apiece.
The Album of the Year field brings together Daft Punk, Sara Bareilles, Kendrick Lamar, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis and Taylor Swift. It is an unusually varied lineup covering electronic music, pop, rap and country, with enough sharply divided fan bases to keep the internet calm and reasonable for several minutes.
Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Kendrick Lamar, Kacey Musgraves, James Blake and Ed Sheeran will compete for Best New Artist. Lorde also made a major entrance with nominations for Record of the Year and Song of the Year for “Royals.”
Faith-based music is represented by artists including Tasha Cobbs, Natalie Grant, Matt Maher, Mandisa, Tye Tribbett, Erica Campbell, TobyMac, Chris Tomlin, Building 429 and Matt Redman.
