Rebel Records has entered a distribution and marketing partnership with Syntax Creative, bringing one of bluegrass music’s longest-running independent labels into the distributor’s roster.
Founded in 1960, Rebel Records has built a catalog of more than 4,800 songs spanning traditional and progressive bluegrass. Its releases have included recordings by Larry Sparks, Ralph Stanley, Del McCoury and Bill Emerson.
The partnership will cover both the label’s historic catalog and its future projects. Syntax Creative will handle distribution while contributing marketing and promotional support intended to introduce the music to new listeners without losing sight of the audience that has sustained Rebel for more than six decades.
“We are honored to welcome Rebel Records into the Syntax Creative family,” Syntax Creative CEO Timothy Trudeau said. “They’ve been a revolutionary force in music for longer than I’ve been alive. It’s an honor to be part of their next chapter as they continue introducing new artists to the world.”
The announcement arrives as Rebel continues releasing new music, including “The Auctioneer” by The Kody Norris Show.
Rebel Records President Mark Freeman described the agreement as an opportunity to extend the label’s reach while preserving the identity that made its catalog significant.
“Joining forces with Syntax Creative is a thrilling new chapter for Rebel Records,” Freeman said. “They have a consistent history and reputation for distribution and marketing. We’re excited to partner with someone who wants to honor our rich history and be part of the next chapter of iconic artists.”
Rebel Records has spent much of its history documenting bluegrass as both a living tradition and an evolving form. Its catalog connects foundational figures with later generations of artists who have carried the music forward without sanding away its rough edges.
For Syntax Creative, the agreement adds a substantial body of bluegrass recordings to a roster that already includes several independent labels working in the genre.
