Nearly a decade after releasing their first EP, New Jersey progressive metalcore band Prevailer are finally preparing to deliver a full-length debut.
Convalescent arrives Aug. 28 through Rottweiler Records with eight tracks built around heavy riffs, melodic choruses and the emotional weight that has defined the band’s work since its early releases.
Prevailer formed in 2015 and issued a self-titled EP the following year. Since then, the band has released a series of singles while its lineup and sound continued to develop.
The current lineup features Franklin Dexter Peer on vocals, Jackson Newcomb on guitar, Tim Dyson on guitar and vocals, Dylan Volb on drums and Corbin Smith on bass.
‘Convalescent’ Turns a Decade of Work Into One Album
The album opens with “Diseased Frames,” a song that balances aggressive guitars and vocals with a more melodic chorus.
From there, Prevailer pushes further into the rhythmic shifts and technical playing associated with progressive metalcore.
“Into The Furnace,” one of the songs released ahead of the album, leans heavily into that tension.
“Walk with me through the fields of pain, ingest the endless struggle, let us begin again.”
The song moves between harsh vocals, staggered rhythms and a more open chorus, giving the band room to work with both heaviness and melody.
Other tracks include “Conflux,” “Entry Wound,” “Crooked Atlas,” “Malady” and closing song “Inversion.”
The title track is different. At a little over a minute long, “Convalescent” is a brief instrumental interlude built around a keyboard patch rather than a full metalcore performance.
It functions more as a pause in the album than a centerpiece, giving the record a short stretch of stillness before the heavier material returns.
Prevailer Build Around Weight and Melody
Prevailer describe their sound as progressive metalcore, placing them in a lane alongside bands such as ERRA, Currents, Fit For A King and August Burns Red.
That comparison is useful because Convalescent does not treat heaviness and melody as opposing ideas.
Instead, the album moves between dense guitar work, aggressive vocals and choruses designed to open up the songs rather than simply make them louder.
The approach can already be heard on the 2026 singles “Into The Furnace” and “Entry Wound.” Both followed earlier Prevailer releases including “Diseased Frames,” “Crooked Atlas” and “Malady.”
Those older songs now appear alongside the newer material as part of the complete eight-track album.
Rottweiler Records Becomes Home for the Debut
Convalescent also marks Prevailer’s first full-length release with Rottweiler Records.
The label relationship gives the band a formal home for material that has developed over several years rather than around a single short release cycle.
For Prevailer, that makes the album less of an introduction than a point of arrival.
The band has been making music since 2015. Now, after an EP, several singles and multiple lineup developments, those years finally resolve into a full record.
Convalescent will be released Aug. 28.
