Jason Williams brings a dazzle to basketball that we do not see often enough.
There is something that simply feels right when a point guard drops dimes consistently.
Personally, I enjoy watching a beautiful pass more than a great dunk.
That may sound like basketball blasphemy until Williams throws the ball behind his back, off his elbow or through an opening no one else realized existed.
Great dunkers are everywhere.
Great passers are much harder to find.
Jason Williams Makes the Pass the Main Event
A dunk finishes a possession. A great pass creates something that did not appear possible a second earlier.
It requires vision, timing and the confidence to deliver the ball before everyone else understands where it needs to go.
Williams has always played with that kind of imagination.
During his NBA career, “White Chocolate” became known for no-look passes, creative ballhandling and a willingness to try things that would get most point guards immediately invited to the bench.
Not everything worked.
That was part of the fun.
Williams played as though basketball was supposed to include experimentation. He could make a routine possession feel unpredictable without forgetting that the point of the pass was still to help someone score.
White Chocolate Is Still Putting on a Show
Williams is no longer playing in the NBA, but he is still doing his thing on the USA Legends Tour in China.
The tour gives fans a chance to watch former NBA players compete, entertain and remind everyone that court vision does not disappear at retirement.
Williams may not move exactly as he did during his years with Sacramento, Memphis, Miami and Orlando.
However, the instincts remain.
He still sees angles other players miss. More importantly, he still appears willing to attempt the pass once he sees it.
