Syntax Creative has signed a distribution agreement with DarkChild Gospel, the independent label led by Grammy Award-winning songwriter and producer Fred Jerkins.
The partnership will include upcoming releases from the label. Among them is A Project of Healing, a compilation intended to promote cancer awareness, education and encouragement.
The project is scheduled for release in October and will feature Bishop Paul S. Morton, Darwin Hobbs, Damita, Alexis Spight, Y’Anna Crawley, Joann Rosario-Condrey and other artists.
Its lead single, “We Won,” featuring Jonathan Nelson, is already available through digital services and has been serviced to gospel radio.
“I’m very excited about the different projects we have going on, from Jermaine Dolly to the cancer-awareness project, which is close to my heart,” Jerkins said. “I expect great things in all that we will do together.”
DarkChild Gospel Builds on Jermaine Dolly’s Success
Jerkins has written and produced music for artists including Michael Jackson, Beyoncé, Brandy, Whitney Houston, Jennifer Lopez and Mary J. Blige.
He won a Grammy Award as a co-writer of Destiny’s Child’s “Say My Name.” In addition, he has received Dove Awards for work with Deitrick Haddon and Kierra Sheard.
DarkChild Gospel enters the Syntax Creative partnership following the success of Jermaine Dolly’s debut album, The Dolly Express.
The album reached No. 1 on Billboard’s Gospel Albums chart. Meanwhile, Dolly’s singles “You” and “Come and Knock on Our Door” both reached the top 10 on Billboard’s Gospel Radio chart.
The video for “You” also surpassed 2 million views on YouTube.
Syntax Creative Adds Digital Support
Jerkins said the agreement will allow DarkChild Gospel to continue building independently while expanding its digital reach.
“We believe Syntax is uniquely and specifically the right partner in the digital space to continue our success independently,” Jerkins said.
The partnership gives DarkChild Gospel distribution infrastructure while the label continues developing its own artists and projects.
For Syntax Creative, the agreement adds a label led by a songwriter and producer whose work reaches well beyond gospel music.
“We’re humbled by this opportunity,” Syntax Creative CEO Timothy J. Trudeau said, “and are going to work really hard for Fred and all of DarkChild Gospel.”
