The 2024 Grammy nominations are in, and SZA is leading a field dominated by women.
She earned nine nominations, including Album of the Year for SOS and Record and Song of the Year for “Kill Bill.” Victoria Monét, Phoebe Bridgers and engineer-mixer Serban Ghenea follow with seven nominations each.
The Album of the Year field includes Jon Batiste, boygenius, Miley Cyrus, Lana Del Rey, Janelle Monáe, Olivia Rodrigo, Taylor Swift and SZA. Seven of the eight nominated albums are by women or groups composed of women, giving this year’s top category a very different complexion from the usual awards-season lineup.
The Recording Academy also reduced the four general-field categories from 10 nominees back to eight. That still leaves plenty of room for disagreement, but at least the acceptance speeches should begin before sunrise.
Victoria Monét earned nominations for Record of the Year and Best New Artist, while Miley Cyrus received nominations for “Flowers” in both the record and song categories. Billie Eilish’s “What Was I Made For?” from Barbie also landed in Record and Song of the Year.
