This week, while at SXSW, I met with clients, friends and, Lord willing, future clients.
Speaking of friends, one of my childhood friends was working at The Mohawk, home of House of Vans, and I decided to go see him for a bit.
While there, A$AP Mob was both performing and living up to their name.
A$AP Rocky at SXSW
First of all, the venue was at capacity and the fire marshal showed up to put us all in check. The venue, A$AP Mob and even A$AP Rocky himself worked hard to get everyone to comply with the fire marshal’s request or face shutting down the show.
Long story short, the crowd didn’t obey. While A$AP Rocky and the mob performed, the house got shut down, leaving only the monitors on.
Unfazed, the mob continued mobbing.
Eventually, the lights and monitors were shut down as well.
Nothing was going to stop A$AP Mob. On the contrary, they turned up! Lucky for you, we were there to capture this incredible moment.
Then they took to the streets to make sure they made the best of their trip to SXSW and created some buzz.
Respect the Grind
Of course, I don’t condone creating a mob and potentially starting a riot and risking people getting hurt, or the content of the music. But there is something to be said about the work ethic, read: grind, here.
As a marketing professional, I love the persistence of A$AP Rocky. In an extremely crowded music industry and at the most crowded music festival, he was set on making sure his fans were happy and that people were talking.
I can most definitely respect that!
