The 2020 Oscar nominations are in, and Joker has put on a happy face.
Todd Phillips’ dark comic-book drama leads the field with 11 nominations, including Best Picture, directing and a leading actor nod for Joaquin Phoenix. The Irishman, 1917 and Once Upon a Time … in Hollywood follow with 10 nominations each.
Jojo Rabbit, Little Women, Marriage Story and Parasite earned six nominations apiece. The Best Picture field also includes Ford v Ferrari, giving this year’s race everything from mobsters and divorce attorneys to race cars, trench warfare and one deeply misguided imaginary friend.
Scarlett Johansson received two acting nominations, one for her leading performance in Marriage Story and another for her supporting role in Jojo Rabbit. Cynthia Erivo also earned two nominations, receiving recognition for her performance in Harriet and for co-writing the film’s original song, “Stand Up.”
