Switchfoot has released the official music video for “Love Alone Is Worth the Fight,” one of the first songs from the band’s upcoming Fading West project.
The video follows the San Diego band across oceans, beaches, highways and concert stages. Much of the footage comes from the same international travels shaping both the forthcoming album and its companion documentary.
For a band that has spent much of its career writing about movement, searching and the uneasy distance between where we are and where we want to be, the road-movie treatment fits.
Switchfoot Takes ‘Love Alone Is Worth the Fight’ on the Road
“Love Alone Is Worth the Fight” pairs that restless imagery with one of Switchfoot’s characteristically oversized choruses.
The arrangement leans further into synthesizers and atmospheric pop than some of the band’s earlier work. However, Jon Foreman’s central argument remains familiar: Cynicism may be easier, but it is not much of a destination.
The song was released in September on the three-track Fading West EP alongside “Who We Are” and “Ba55.”
The larger Fading West project grew from Switchfoot’s travels through several countries, where the band divided its time among concerts, recording sessions and the occasional search for a surf break.
A Road Movie That Still Keeps People in View
That concept could easily become an expensive vacation video in less careful hands.
Instead, the footage gives “Love Alone Is Worth the Fight” a sense of scale without losing the people at the center of it.
The scenery is enormous, but the song keeps returning to a decision made one relationship at a time.
