The 2016 Grammy nominations are in, and Kendrick Lamar has more reasons than anyone to celebrate.
Lamar leads the field with 11 nominations, including Album of the Year for To Pimp a Butterfly and Song of the Year for “Alright.” Taylor Swift and The Weeknd follow with seven nominations each.
The Album of the Year category brings together Alabama Shakes, Lamar, Chris Stapleton, Swift and The Weeknd. That gives Grammy voters rock, rap, country, pop and R&B to compare, because choosing between similar things apparently would have been too easy.
Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars landed a Record of the Year nomination for “Uptown Funk,” while Ed Sheeran’s “Thinking Out Loud” earned recognition in both the record and song categories. Courtney Barnett, James Bay, Sam Hunt, Tori Kelly and Meghan Trainor make up the Best New Artist field.
Gospel and Christian music nominees include Kirk Franklin, Francesca Battistelli, Israel & New Breed, Lauren Daigle, TobyMac, Tasha Cobbs, Jonathan McReynolds, Matt Maher, Chris Tomlin, Crowder and Third Day.
