Southern California duo Auditory Fabric has released “Michael Jordan,” a new track featuring KIDD and built around the confidence of taking a shot before anyone else sees the opening.
Auditory Fabric consists of rappers Justword and Bondservant, who previously released the album Heir Craft. On “Michael Jordan,” the pair trades verses with KIDD over a laid-back, soulful beat.
The production leaves plenty of room for wordplay. Meanwhile, the hook is built to linger long after the track ends.
Auditory Fabric Takes Its Shot
The title is less about basketball analysis than the mythology attached to Michael Jordan’s name. Preparation, competitiveness and the willingness to keep shooting after a miss all become part of the metaphor.
As a result, the track uses Jordan as shorthand for refusing to let uncertainty decide whether an opportunity is worth pursuing.
That premise could easily turn into four minutes of chest-thumping. Instead, Auditory Fabric and KIDD keep the emphasis on work rather than celebrity.
The confidence comes from continuing to develop the gift, not merely announcing that everyone else should recognize it.
For now, “Michael Jordan” is available as a free listen. That feels appropriate for a song that arrives with a shrug, takes the shot and assumes you will eventually notice the scoreboard.
