Southern California duo Auditory Fabric has released “Michael Jordan,” a new track featuring KIDD and built around the confidence of taking a shot before anyone else sees the opening.
Auditory Fabric consists of rappers Justword and Bondservant, who previously released the album Heir Craft. “Michael Jordan” finds the pair trading verses with KIDD over a laid-back, soulful beat that leaves plenty of space for wordplay and a hook designed to linger.
The title is less about basketball analysis than the mythology attached to Jordan’s name: preparation, competitiveness and the willingness to keep shooting after a miss. The track uses that image as shorthand for refusing to let uncertainty decide whether an opportunity is worth pursuing.
That premise could easily turn into four minutes of chest-thumping, but Auditory Fabric and KIDD keep the focus on work rather than celebrity. The confidence comes from continuing to develop the gift, not merely announcing that everyone else should recognize it.
“Michael Jordan” quickly found an audience after its April 10 release. It ranked among Rapzilla’s five most-played songs for the week of April 9-15, alongside tracks from Lecrae, Andy Mineo and Swoope.
The song remains available as a free listen, which feels appropriate for a track that arrives with a shrug, takes the shot and assumes you will eventually notice the scoreboard.
