Switchfoot has revealed the cover and tracklist for Fading West, the band’s ninth studio album, due Jan. 14.
The 11-song record shares its title with Switchfoot’s recently released documentary. The film follows the San Diego band through touring, recording and an international search for waves.
After screenings during the band’s fall tour, the Fading West documentary became available digitally Dec. 10.
Switchfoot Builds Fading West on the Road
Fading West is more than a companion soundtrack. However, the film and album grew from the same stretch of travel.
As a result, Switchfoot draws on the landscapes and sounds encountered along the way while moving beyond the more guitar-driven approach of 2011’s Vice Verses.
The project reflects a band willing to stretch its sound without abandoning the elements that made it recognizable in the first place.
Fans have already heard part of the album through the Fading West EP, released in September.
The preview included “Who We Are” and “Love Alone Is Worth the Fight”, which become the first two songs on the full-length record.
Both songs also connect directly to the film’s travel-heavy visual world, making them a natural introduction to the larger project.
Fading West Tracklist Revealed
The newly announced tracklist also includes “When We Come Alive,” “The World You Want,” “Saltwater Heart” and the curiously titled “Ba55.”
Apparently, even Switchfoot occasionally has to spell something like it is using a calculator.
The full album contains 11 songs:
- Love Alone Is Worth the Fight
- Who We Are
- When We Come Alive
- Say It Like You Mean It
- The World You Want
- Slipping Away
- Ba55
- Let It Out
- All or Nothing at All
- Saltwater Heart
- Back to the Beginning Again
Fading West will be released Jan. 14.
