Shelly E. Johnson’s “Kingdom Come” calls the Church toward unity during what the worship leader describes as a challenging time.
The song opens Johnson’s upcoming album, Your Kingdom Come, which arrives Sept. 23. LifeWay Worship will release the 12-song project in partnership with Elevate Entertainment Distribution.
Michael Farren produced the album. Johnson, Sean Hill and Jason Dyba contributed songs to the project.
For Johnson, however, the record grew from more than a collection of new worship songs. Her travels and work with local churches shaped its focus.
“I truly believe God inspired me to write the songs on this album for such a time as this,” said Johnson. “We are living in a unique time in history, and our culture is influencing the Church in many ways, both positive and negative. Throughout my travels and work in the local church, my eyes have been opened to some of the issues that are challenging our churches today. It breaks my heart to see the division these challenges are causing among the Body of Christ. God has used this to fuel a renewed passion in me to encourage unity and oneness among His people.”
As a result, unity runs through the heart of Your Kingdom Come. The album opens with “Kingdom Come,” while other tracks include “Sound of Heaven,” “Power of the Cross,” “Church Arise” and “Overwhelmed.”

Johnson previously wrote “Power of the Cross,” which other artists have recorded, including Natalie Grant and Steve Green. Now, Your Kingdom Come gives her another opportunity to write directly for churches and worship communities.
Ultimately, Johnson said she hopes the songs encourage Christians to move past division and toward greater unity.
