The Kingdom Heirs have released “I Take It to the Lord,” an upbeat Southern Gospel song about handing burdens to God instead of carrying them alone.
The Sonlite Records single features Chris Bryant on lead vocals. Bryant wrote the song with Rodney Griffin after an idea spent more than two years waiting in the notes on his phone.
A Phone Note Became ‘I Take It to the Lord’
The song began with a conversation at the National Quartet Convention. Bryant told Griffin how much his songwriting had meant to him, and the two discussed writing something together.
Bryant already had the central idea: “When it’s more than I can take, I take it to the Lord.” However, the phrase remained unfinished for about two and a half years.
One day, Bryant returned to the note and began developing it. He sent the material to Griffin, who wrote the second verse. Then, they finished the song together over the phone that afternoon.
David Johnson’s country fiddle gives the recording a lively pulse. Meanwhile, the quartet’s backing vocals turn Bryant’s personal declaration into a wider invitation to release fear, pressure and uncertainty through prayer.
The song does not deny that burdens can become overwhelming. Instead, it argues that Christians were never expected to carry them without help.
The Kingdom Heirs Continue Their New Album Cycle
“I Take It to the Lord” is the third advance single from the Kingdom Heirs’ forthcoming album.
The run began with “Jesus Never Met a Sinner (That He Couldn’t Save),” the group’s first entirely new release since its 2024 album, No Better Time.
Next, “Always Get the Grace” considered what remains when prayer does not produce the outcome someone hoped to receive.
Together, the three songs move through redemption, sustaining grace and the decision to place life’s weight in God’s hands. The newest single approaches those ideas with the brightest arrangement of the three.
