Village KNG Launches as Soldier Sound Records Partners With Syntax Creative

Veteran Nashville emcees Pettidee and Knowdaverbs have formed Village KNG. The duo is the first new act under a distribution deal between Soldier Sound Records and Syntax Creative.

Both artists bring more than two decades of experience to the group. Knowdaverbs is known for a thoughtful, laid-back delivery. Pettidee built his reputation on Southern grit, heavy production and a strong live presence.

The deal also places Soldier Sound Records’ catalog with Syntax for distribution and marketing. That catalog includes Pettidee songs such as “The Ghetto,” “Represent” and “I’m a Vet.” It also includes music that has appeared on Billboard charts.

“Syntax knows our history,” Pettidee said. “We believe a partnership consisting of our quality music and their innovative ideas and resources is the perfect combination to release music.”

Village KNG Brings Two Distinct Styles Together

The group’s first run of singles begins with “Harriet Tubman.” “Forward Motion” follows March 24, and “Afro Frontier” arrives April 28.

At first, the pairing may seem unusual. Knowdaverbs brings a smoother style, while Pettidee leans into a heavier Southern sound.

However, that contrast gives Village KNG its identity. The two voices do not compete. Instead, they create a clear balance.

“We were established in the era of gatekeepers,” Knowdaverbs said. “The digital marketplace is a dream come true for groups like ours. Where others only see saturation, we see a vast amount of opportunity.”

Knowdaverbs has received several Dove Award nominations. He has also worked with Pillar, KJ-52, Grits and Out of Eden.

Pettidee is a Grammy-nominated producer and a Dove- and Stellar-nominated artist. His music has appeared in films and television shows.

Those placements include Meet the Browns, CSI: Miami, Sons of Anarchy, America’s Next Top Model and Pimp My Ride.

“Not trying to blow his cover, but Pettidee is actually a very nice guy and enjoyable to work with,” Syntax Creative CEO Timothy Trudeau said.

Trudeau also credited Knowdaverbs with encouraging him early in his music career.

“Likewise, Knowdaverbs was one of the first people in the industry who gave me the time of day when I was just a teenager showing interest in the music business,” he said.

Soldier Sound Records focuses on music that offers hope while addressing violence, struggle and faith.

“Village KNG has so much passion and energy,” Syntax Creative marketing coordinator Erin Moorman said. “They make great music, and I look forward to sharing it with our friends at the digital service providers.”
