Most people work hard to avoid becoming a problem.
Chad Jones is willing to reconsider that goal.
On “Problem,” Jones examines what happens when loving people, confronting injustice and refusing comfortable silence make someone inconvenient to everyone else.
“‘Problem’ is a record for those who live in society and love people as Christ commanded, even if it causes more problems,” Jones says. “Embrace being labeled a problem to fight for the solution in Christ alone.”
That is an important distinction.
Creating conflict is easy. The internet has turned it into a recreational activity.
However, there is a difference between causing trouble for attention and becoming troublesome because an issue demands attention.
When Loving People Creates Problems
The title does not present disruption as a virtue by itself.
Instead, Jones connects it to a responsibility to love people as Christ commanded.
That kind of love is not always polite, quiet or convenient.
Sometimes it requires challenging an accepted idea. At other times, it means noticing people whom society has learned to overlook.
Of course, believing that your cause is righteous does not automatically make every method wise.
Christians can become so pleased with their willingness to offend that the offense becomes the message.
Jones points toward a different standard.
The goal is not to become the loudest problem in the room. It is to pursue the solution found in Christ.
That leaves listeners with a useful question: Are we creating tension because we love people, or have we simply learned to enjoy tension?
Chad Jones Brings Propaganda and Canon Into the Conversation
“Problem” features Propaganda and Canon, two artists well suited for a record about faith, society and uncomfortable conversations.
The song appears on Jones’ forthcoming Keep Up EP from Reflection Music Group.
The six-song project also includes appearances from Foure, Jayme Pearl, Derek Minor and Roz.
