The 2022 Oscar nominations are in, and The Power of the Dog is leading the pack.
Jane Campion’s Western drama earned 12 nominations, including Best Picture, directing and acting recognition for Benedict Cumberbatch, Kirsten Dunst, Jesse Plemons and Kodi Smit-McPhee. Dune followed closely with 10 nominations, proving that audiences are not the only ones willing to spend a few hours discussing spice.
Belfast and West Side Story received seven nominations each, while King Richard collected six. The Best Picture race also includes CODA, Don’t Look Up, Drive My Car, Licorice Pizza and Nightmare Alley.
This year’s field stretches from intimate family dramas and sweeping science fiction to tennis courts, television studios and a carnival where nearly everyone should have asked more questions before accepting a job.
Kristen Stewart earned her first Oscar nomination for portraying Princess Diana in Spencer. Beyoncé received her first nomination for co-writing “Be Alive” from King Richard, while Lin-Manuel Miranda moved one step closer to EGOT status with a nomination for “Dos Oruguitas” from Encanto.
