Daniel Grindstaff’s Troubadours Hit No. 1

Daniel Grindstaff & The Uptown Troubadours have reached No. 1 on the Bluegrass Unlimited National Bluegrass Survey with their self-titled debut album.

The achievement continues a strong opening year for the group. Three songs from the album previously topped bluegrass radio charts, while a fourth climbed to No. 2.

Three Singles Reached No. 1

“Angel Dream,” “The Death of John Henry” and “We See Love” each reached No. 1. “The Death of John Henry” features Country Music Hall of Fame member Marty Stuart on mandolin.

The group’s current single, “Denver,” peaked at No. 2. Larry Gatlin wrote the song and later joined the band to perform it during its Grand Ole Opry debut.

The self-titled album arrived March 20 through Bonfire Music Group. Grindstaff leads the group on banjo alongside guitarist Kevin Richardson, fiddler Derek Deakins and bassist Kent Blanton.

An Opry Debut and IBMA Nomination

The Uptown Troubadours made their official Grand Ole Opry debut July 15. Gatlin and The Gatlin Brothers joined them for “Denver.”

The group closed its set with “Foggy Mountain Breakdown,” creating a family connection across generations. Grindstaff’s father performed the same song during his own Opry debut 56 years earlier.

Grindstaff had already appeared on the Opry stage many times as a supporting musician. However, the July performance marked his first official appearance there as leader of The Uptown Troubadours.

The International Bluegrass Music Association has also nominated the group for New Artist of the Year. The winner will be announced Oct. 22 during the IBMA World of Bluegrass gathering in Chattanooga.

With a No. 1 album, three chart-topping songs, an Opry debut and an IBMA nomination, The Uptown Troubadours have packed several early-career milestones into their first album cycle.
