Sister duo JoLeigh are reaching back into country music’s catalog for “Baby Don’t You Let Go,” a new recording of the Sonya Isaacs, Austin Cunningham and Jessi Alexander song previously recorded by Trisha Yearwood.

Released Aug. 27 through Bonfire Recording Co., JoLeigh’s version pulls the song toward the sisters’ blend of country and Americana while keeping its high harmonies and rhythmic momentum intact.

JoJo Hall and Teddi Cyrus share the vocals, with Scott Vestal on banjo, Cody Kilby on guitar, Eamon McLaughlin on fiddle, Evan Winsor on bass and Rick Lloyd on percussion.

Bobby Cyrus and Teddi Cyrus co-produced the track.

JoLeigh Put Their Own Stamp on an Older Country Song

“Baby Don’t You Let Go” was written years ago by Isaacs, Cunningham and Alexander.

Trisha Yearwood later recorded the song for her 2005 album Jasper County. JoLeigh now return to the same composition with a more acoustic, roots-oriented arrangement built around the sisters’ harmonies.

Isaacs remembers the song beginning during a drive to Nashville for a writing session.

“I just started groovin’ on the steering wheel and somehow the lyrics just fell out,” Isaacs said.

She brought the idea into the session with Alexander and Cunningham, where the three finished the song together.

“It’s a quirky, fun, meaningful love song disguised by a stomping, rockin’ beat with sky high harmonies,” Isaacs said. “I’ve always loved it and I’m so excited about JoLeigh’s cut!”

‘Baby Don’t You Let Go’ Follows JoLeigh’s Debut

The single follows “Bonfire,” which introduced JoLeigh earlier this year.

Hall and Cyrus grew up singing together in Kentucky, including performances at the church pastored by their grandfather, Ted Shannon.

The sisters later performed with the Kentucky Opry and Kentucky Opry Junior Pros. Their live experience also included opening for Lynyrd Skynyrd, performing at the Kennedy Center in Washington and appearing at a Kentucky gubernatorial inauguration.

After stepping away from music to focus on marriage and raising their children, Hall and Cyrus eventually returned to performing together and formed JoLeigh.

Now signed with Bonfire Music Group, the sisters are working toward a full-length album.

“Baby Don’t You Let Go” gives that project another clue about where they are headed: country songs with enough acoustic muscle to lean toward Americana and enough family harmony to make the identity unmistakably theirs.
