NewReleaseToday has launched NRT Music, a digital label designed to give independent artists marketing, development and release support while allowing them to retain ownership of their music.
The new label has partnered with Syntax Creative for digital distribution and marketing, combining NewReleaseToday’s audience and artist-development experience with Syntax’s release infrastructure.
NRT Music Extends NewReleaseToday Beyond Media
Founded in 2001, NewReleaseToday has built its audience through music news, reviews, interviews and artist discovery.
NRT Music extends that work into direct artist and label services. The company says its artists will receive priority marketing, brand-development support and access to a broader release infrastructure without requiring them to surrender ownership of their music.
“Syntax was the missing piece to the puzzle for properly launching NRT Music,” NewReleaseToday founder Kevin McNeese said. “I’m honored to be working with Timothy and the entire Syntax Creative team as we combine their knowledge, tools and passion with our own desire to connect people to music that enriches their lives.”
Under the partnership, Syntax Creative will provide digital distribution and music-marketing support while NewReleaseToday brings its existing audience, editorial reach and artist-development resources.
Syntax Creative Adds Distribution to the Partnership
Syntax Creative CEO Timothy J. Trudeau said the companies share a long-standing interest in giving independent artists access to tools traditionally associated with larger labels.
“Like us, they’ve been working really hard for two decades to place indies on equal footing with the majors,” Trudeau said. “Combining our efforts will bring exponential opportunities for artists.”
NRT Music describes its mission as helping artists develop their music and ministry over the long term rather than simply providing a release outlet.
The model also gives participating artists another option between complete do-it-yourself distribution and a traditional label agreement. Instead of building every part of the operation themselves, artists can use NewReleaseToday for development and audience support while Syntax handles distribution and related release services.
That division of labor is central to the partnership: NRT Music can concentrate on developing artists and connecting them with listeners, while Syntax Creative supplies the infrastructure needed to distribute and market the music.
