Syntax Creative has promoted longtime employee Brandon Musser to chief operating officer.
Musser joined the independent music company 18 years earlier and was part of its team when Syntax completed its first agreement with Apple. In his new role, he will oversee daily business operations and work closely with the company’s department heads.
“Working at Syntax has been a blessing,” Musser said. “I’ve been here since we did our first deal with Apple. I appreciate the fun, friendly, yet professional work environment.”
Musser said he was proud of the company’s work with independent artists and labels and looked forward to continued growth for both Syntax and his own career.
The promotion formalizes responsibilities Musser had increasingly assumed during nearly two decades with the company, including operational oversight and direct service to Syntax Creative’s clients.
Scott Wagner, general manager of Crossroads Label Group, said Musser’s attention to detail and advocacy had made him a trusted part of the label’s relationship with Syntax.
“He wholeheartedly prioritizes our well-being and strives to ensure our satisfaction,” Wagner said. “Brandon is an unwavering advocate for both our team and roster.”
Greg Davidson, owner of Central South Distribution, also pointed to Musser’s experience navigating digital music operations.
“He excels in his role and serves our company well with his extensive knowledge and experience with the intricacies of digital,” Davidson said.
Syntax Creative CEO Timothy J. Trudeau said placing Musser in charge of daily operations would allow the company’s leadership to devote more attention to expansion.
“Brandon is a key part of our past,” Trudeau said. “Now he will be a key part of our future. Knowing that someone is at the helm of our daily operations who is as loyal, trustworthy and experienced as Brandon will free me up to focus on growth like never before.”
Musser’s promotion also reflects Syntax Creative’s stated emphasis on developing leadership from within the company rather than treating institutional knowledge as something that can be replaced with a new title and a fresh résumé.
